I read a fantastic post over on Under30CEO.com that’s since been rolling around in my head. I’ve found myself thinking about this concept at least once an hour since right around 10:30 am yesterday.
Are you “spending” your time or “investing” your time?
Talk about a convicting statement.
So often, people like you and me, always trying to start a business, blog, or whatever the grand idea of the day is, complain about not having the time to do so. “If only I didn’t have my full-time job,” is my go-to excuse for my goals not being met and my life not being where I thought it would be at this point.
But after reading the above statement, and really thinking through my daily choices, I’m (shockingly) finding time to spend on this blog.
Don’t get me wrong – we all need to “spend” time doing things we love – otherwise what would be the point of this whole life-change thing. As long as I’m making the conscious decision to do so, I’m letting it go.
Example – even though I’m 28 and married with 2 kids, I’m still a huge video gamer. Most nights I like to settle in for at least a few minutes with the latest sports game to relax and zone out. Now – my XBox360 (and computer, and…) have the saying above written right on it. Just a reminder to myself that there are probably more productive things I could be doing.
The notes throughout my house are more than enough to ensure I’m not spending my time aimlessly surfing the internet, playing the latest flash game that has my attention, or watching TV out of boredom.
Hey, I got this post done, didn’t I?
